The world lost one of its longest-reigning leaders on Sept. 8 as Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor of the United Kingdom passed away. Most of the world knew her simply as Queen Elizabeth II.

Her full title included the following: by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of her other realms and territories queen, head of the Commonwealth, defender of the faith. She was born April 21, 1926, in London, England, and died Sept. 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She served as queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from Feb. 6, 1952, to Sept. 8, 2022. In 2015, she became the longest-reigning monarch in British history, overtaking Queen Victoria.
