The singer-songwriter Sade has completely changed my life.

While listening to Sade’s discography, I’ve never been let down regarding my emotions at the highest level possible.

Some of her songs trend on TikTok like “Be That Easy,” “Like a Tattoo,” “Kiss of LIfe,” etc., but some individuals may see them as just “TikTok songs.” Just because someone finds a song on TikTok doesn’t make it any less good, especially Sade’s songs.

Despite the melodies and her soft voice, when it comes to diving into the stories that she portrays in her music, listeners are able to hear, feel and experience the complexities of love, the intricacy of heartbreak, the grief behind loss and other viewpoints on friendships and romantic relationships.

Still, there are pieces that tell stories of racism, poverty, etc., but with music, although there is intent behind an artist’s work, there is always room for interpretation.

Although Sade’s discography is always a big deal on my Spotify playlists, the four songs that never fail to make me feel the emotions on a level I never thought existed would have to be: “By Your Side,” “Be That Easy,” “Please Send Me Someone to Love” and “Love Is Stronger Than Pride.”

These four songs have altered my way of life in such a way that I allow myself to feel my feelings and allow myself to accept that not everything is in my control. They have especially made me feel extremely grateful to experience hardships and take them as lessons.

With Sade’s music, I’ve learned that a mindset of negativity, as well as a downplay on experiences and emotions, can prevent the growth and happiness most people yearn for.

If there’s anything someone takes from TikTok, I think Sade’s music would be the greatest lesson, because it’s a blessing to find great songs you can listen to, relate to and feel.
