Student Government Association leaders say recent leadership changes set the stage for a productive spring semester, with clear roles and renewed focus on student engagement.

President Beto Gonzalez said the team used what they learned from the Fall 2025 semester to prepare for this semester’s projects and initiatives.

“We [were] thinking ahead to spring,” Gonzalez said. “Filling vacant positions and organizing responsibilities now makes sure we can hit the ground running [this] term.”

SGA Director of Finance Santiago Garcia Rosales said the new officers brought fresh perspectives to the association, and their input began to shape upcoming programs.

“A lot of the people we brought in weren’t connected to SGA before,” Garcia said. “They ask questions, challenge assumptions and help us plan more effectively for [this] semester.”

Gonzalez said committee responsibilities were assigned accordingly so officers can take ownership of tasks in their specific roles, ensuring every spring initiative has someone accountable.

“[Last] year has been about making SGA a team where everyone knows their role,” Gonzalez said. “Delegating responsibilities properly now helps us prepare for a stronger, more organized spring semester.”

Garcia added that the leadership transition has strengthened communication among officers, making them more confident in handling upcoming events and projects.

“It’s been challenging at times, but it’s rewarding,” he said. “Everyone knows their responsibilities, and that will make [this] semester run smoother for students.”

Both leaders said this forward-looking approach is already encouraging greater student engagement. Gonzalez said students are more willing to share feedback and get involved, and Garcia said mentorship and training for new officers should ensure continuity.

SGA’s plans to build momentum began this semester with Spirit Week and continue with The Big Event, which will involve multiple campus organizations. Gonzalez said the goal is to continue fostering a culture where leadership is about service, teamwork and preparation.

“Seeing the team work together and take ownership …,” Gonzalez said. “It gives me confidence that SGA will keep growing stronger.”
